Hey, it's been a while since my last update. Sorry about that! It's a pretty busy time at the moment and I'm finding it a little hard to keep on top of what day it is, let alone what I'm doing within them!
I went over to Belfast for my interview at the US embassy to submit my visa application, just over a week ago. It was the first time I'd ever flown without my family, so I was a little nervous - although nowhere near as nervous as I was about the interview itself! The flight was very quick. I expected it to be around 45 minutes, but we were there within 20. Impressive!
The interview itself was nothing like I expected it to be. I imagined the embassy to be similar to a large assembly hall, and that there would be steel bars protecting people behind the desk. It couldn't have been more different! First of all, we had to go through the security "hut" (for lack of a better word, haha) and have our belongings searched before making our way to the consulate office. The office itself was very small and there were around 30 of us waiting. We had our forms checked, fingerprints scanned etc, and then had to wait until we were called to the interview booth. The interview was over within around 30 seconds and was really just to check the validity of what we had said on the forms. No scary questions and nothing to worry about at all!
We had around 7 hours before our flight back to Glasgow, so wandered around Belfast for a few hours, and spent a while in Starbucks, looking through America brochures for travel inspiration. It still hasn't completely sunk in that Carly and I will be spending 3 months working in Maryland, living in a trailer and working at a waterpark. It's so exciting, but still a completely surreal thought!
Besides the America-excitement, I've been pretty focused on college and trying to complete all my coursework before the final deadline of May 15th. Everything is coming together quite well, but there are a few things I still need to do quite a bit of work on! Speaking of which, I should probably get back to!

Hii! Welcome to the new version of ElectricKiwi.co.uk!
I know this is pretty overdue - my previous aim was to have everything up in June last year! However, life took an unexpected turn and I decided to do another year at college which threw my plans off track slightly. As you can see, the website's split into two sections now. This section, which is a personal blog, and a music section which is dedicated to any musical projects I've been working on. At the moment, everything's a little empty but this will be sorted in time! If you want to keep updated with anything, subscribe to the mailing list!
At the moment I'm in my final year of BA (Hons) Popular Music Performance and am growing increasingly scared/excited at the prospect of finishing in just over a month. Not only because I'll be finished education (although perhaps not for good.. I may do a Masters in a year or two), but also because I'm heading over to America for 4 months this summer - visa permitting. The whole idea of going to another country to live and work, albeit temporarily, is completely out of my comfort zone but probably something that I need to do. Luckily, I won't be going alone because my good friend Carly will be there also! It'll be a great opportunity to spend some time with her as we've both been studying in different cities for the last for years. It'll be an experience we can share and remember for, hopefully, the rest of our lives.
One thing I'm hoping to achieve with the new ElectricKiwi website is communication. Please comment on posts, share your stories and opinions and get in contact! I'll be updating as frequently as I can do, writing about what's happening in my life, sharing musical discoveries and anything else that I find along the way. I hope you'll stick with me. If you have a blog or website too, comment and I'll check you out!
